#31Progress made during intense weekend bargaining
On the last weekend before contracts expire for 60,000 health services and support workers, negotiations were intense and progress was made on both facilities and community issues.
HEU and its bargaining partners have been meeting with employer representatives through the weekend including sessions that went well into Saturday and Sunday evening.
Face-to-face talks with employers are expected to resume Monday evening on key parity issues including ending wage discrimination against community caregivers and achieving justice for health care workers in the facilities subsector who've so far been denied levelled wages and benefits and missed out on last years major pay equity adjustment.
A general wage increase is also up for discussion.
Meanwhile, a team of HEU local activists and staff spent the weekend working round-the-clock at the Labour Relations Board pressing forward on the essential services front to ensure that levels are in place before April 1.
