Talks for a first collective agreement are scheduled between HEU members and the H’ulh-etun Health Society for August 29 and 30, September 4 and 5, and September 11 and 12.

The HEU local’s bargaining committee – mental health worker Albert Thor, receptionist Caroline Harry and union staffperson Heather Compton – met last week to prepare non-monetary bargaining proposals.

More than 35 staff of the H’ulh-etun Society – which has five health units on Vancouver Island – certified with HEU on May 3. The members are employed as community health nurses, mental health and home care workers, janitors, patient travel clerks and receptionists. They provide care and support to the people of the Chemainus, Halalt, Lyackson and Malahat First Nations and the Penelakut Tribe.

For information about bargaining, members can contact Albert Thor at 250-756-7685 or Heather Compton at 1-800-663-5813.
