Negotiations for Sodexho Marriott closer to end
Talks between HEU, representing 50 kitchen and dining room staff at South Granville Park Lodge, and the employer have reached a crucial stage. With most non-monetary items signed off, the parties are now discussing the monetary clauses for this first collective agreement for the 50 union members.
The employer has responded to some of the union’s monetary demands — turning down an employer-paid LTD plan, employer-paid group life insurance plan and an employer-employee shared contribution pension plan.
The union is waiting for a response from the employer on wages and health care and dental benefits.
The parties have reached agreement on certain overtime rates (double time if working on a scheduled day off) and statutory holidays (eleven stats in a calendar year).
The employer’s vacation proposal is little more than Employment Standards, and the union has said this is not good enough.
Negotiators have been at the bargaining table trying to achieve a first collective agreement for the Sodexho Marriott members since May 2000.
Two more days of bargaining have been set for August 21 and 22, 2001.
The Bargaining Committee is made up of:
- Anne Burger, HEU representative
- Elena L. De la Cruz
- Shaku Kumar
- Seema Khana (alternate)
