Member-driven postcard campaign underway

HEU Sodexho food service workers in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority are in the midst of an urgent postcard campaign to get their employer to the bargaining table.

Letters — including two postcards — were mailed to members last week with a call to sign one card and take another to work for a co-worker to sign. The extra card is to make sure that workers who may not be on the mailing list yet are part of the campaign.

HEU acting secretary-business manager Zorica Bosancic says that every member’s voice is important as the bargaining committee prepares for talks with Sodexho for a first collective agreement.

“Our members have told us that there are a number of serious workplace issues that need to be addressed in negotiations,” says Bosancic. “Their bargaining committee has been working hard to put together a comprehensive bargaining package based on members’ input and they want talks to begin as soon as possible.”

The bargaining committee met for four days recently and will be meeting again on February 22 and 23.
