On May 12, make your vote count!

B.C.’s provincial election is on Tuesday, May 12. Members often have a variety of questions as Election Day approaches – everything from what are the key issues to how to register to vote. Here are some links that will help find the answers.

Key issues

The current edition of the Guardian, HEU’s flagship publication, devotes the centrespread to the key issues of the 2009 B.C. election, and features an interview with NDP health critic Adrian Dix about some of the most important aspects of our health care system.

Count Me In

The B.C. Federation of Labour’s Count Me In campaign mobilizes trade union members across the province, raises awareness about the issues that matter to working families, and offers ways for you to get involved in the election.

Stand UP for Seniors Care

HEU’s Stand UP for Seniors Care campaign actively promotes solutions that will significantly improve care for seniors in British Columbia. Among the resources available on the site is An Uncertain Future for Seniors: B.C.'s Restructuring of Home and Community Care, 2001-2008 (Full Report|Summary), the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ recent report on the state of seniors’ care.

BC Health Coalition

The BC Health Coalition champions the protection and expansion of Canada’s universal, public health care system in this province.

Currently, the health coalition website features the public health care platforms of B.C.’s three major parties, and an initiative to substantially increase the number of long-term care beds for seniors and people with disabilities.
