“Our Work Matters”: Overwhelming response to occupational conferences

There’s been overwhelming interest in bargaining preparations as more than 700 delegate forms poured into the HEU provincial office for the occupation- and sector-based conferences being held this fall.

Selected by peers within the diverse HEU job families, representatives will bring forth workplace and bargaining issues from their locals.

“The response clearly shows that HEU members want their voices to be heard,” says assistant secretary-business manager Zorica Bosancic. “It’s important to have our members involved in the bargaining process, and these conferences provide them with a forum to do that.”

Under the theme “Our Work Matters”, bargaining priorities developed during these conferences will go back to union locals, who will then bring recommendations forward to HEU’s Wage Policy Conference on January 9 and 10, 2006.

In addition to identifying bargaining priorities and ongoing advocacy strategies, the conferences will give delegates an opportunity to talk about changes needed within HEU’s structure to strengthen bargaining and the union overall.

Conferences dates:

  • Support - September 15 and 16
  • Trades & Maintenance - September 19 and 20
  • Clerical - September 22 and 23
  • Patient Care - September 26 and 27
  • Patient Care Technical - September 29 and 30
  • Community Health - October 12 and 13
  • Community Social Services - October 19 and 20.
  •

Deadline for submitting Community Social Services delegate names to the HEU provincial office is September 9, 2005 at 5:00 PM.
