Since releasing its short-term training package on October 2, the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA) Education Fund Committee has continued collaborating with other funding partners to finalize details on long-term training opportunities for health care workers across the province.

Under an agreement with the provincial government and health authorities, the $5 million FBA Education Fund was developed to assist members covered by the 2006-2010 Health Services & Support Facilities Subsector collective agreement to upgrade or advance their careers in health care through short-term and long-term training initiatives.

Long-term training includes courses that range in length from more than 20 days to less than one year. These courses would support a facilities’ member moving into a new job within the FBA (i.e. laundry worker to accounting clerk, care aide to LPN, health records clerk to nursing unit assistant, CSD tech to pharmacy tech, etc).

Licensed Practical Nurses have a dedicated fund – the B.C. Health Education Foundation – within each health authority and available to the affiliates – totally $3.5 million over the next four years – for continuing education and specialty training. Contact your Nurse Leader or your immediate supervisor for information on this fund.

Application forms and information on the FBA Education Fund long-term training are now available for download on our website. Hard copies can be obtained from your local executive or shop steward.
