Negotiators check back with respective parties on status of talks

Difficult talks between health care unions, employers and government continued this past weekend in an effort to reach an agreement that would minimize the impact of contracting out on workers and the public health care system.

Negotiators have now taken a break to check back with their respective parties. On Sunday, HEU’s provincial executive met in a special session to review the status of the talks.

HEU’s secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt says this break is critical to the process of reaching a settlement and is hopeful a tentative agreement will be reached soon.

If a deal is reached, says Allnutt, every HEU member affected will have an opportunity to review the terms and participate in a ratification vote.
