HEU equity conference coming this spring

HEU’s 2017 Equity Conference will take place May 30 to June 1 at Vancouver’s Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Under the theme – Rising Together: Roots, Struggle, Strength – conference participants will talk about shared and distinct struggles, learn from historical stories of resistance, and build solidarity among the union’s equity groups.

They’ll also learn ways to create a more equitable union, and discuss reconciliation and how colonization impacts each equity group.

Participants will also elect representatives to serve on HEU’s five equity standing committees – Pink Triangle (LGBTQ+), Indigenous Peoples, Women, Ethnic Diversity, and People with disAbilities.

This conference is a great opportunity to engage members who are new to the union, or new to union activism.

On May 31, there will also be a solidarity rally at St. Paul's Hospital (12:30 p.m., 1081 Burrard Street) to show support for HEU’s contracted support service workers as they bargain for a fair collective agreement.
