Our Work Matters
Most people just don’t understand the vital and diverse nature of HEU members’ work, let alone the complexity of their jobs.
Yet every day, HEU members are working in almost 300 different job classifications to provide patients, residents and clients with the best health care possible.
In September 2005, the union launched the Our Work Matters campaign with seven occupational and sectoral conferences. In all, more than 600 members gathered at these conferences to share information about the work they do, the challenges they face, and their top priorities for upcoming contact negotiations.
The next step was educating BC’s politicians.
Between November 2005 and January 2006, cross-occupational lobby teams of HEU members met face-to-face with most provincial MLAs.
Since then, HEU has continued to shine a spotlight on our members’ work. Raising public awareness about the wide-ranging contribution our members make – across the spectrum of care – remains a top priority.
