CUPE locals protest in the Okanagan

Newsletter
October 20, 2005

On Thursday, CUPE members who work in municipalities, libraries, universities and colleges, recreation, transit, and museums will join protest rallies throughout the Okanagan as part of CUPE-organized protests to support BC teachers.

JOB ACTION WILL NOT INCLUDE HEALTH CARE WORKERS.

HEU members are encouraged to attend rallies to be held in Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Kamloops on Thursday — but they should do so outside scheduled hours of work.

“In the Kootenays and in Victoria this week, HEU members have been disciplined in their support for teachers, and made sure that the focus of these protests are classroom conditions and the right to free collective bargaining,” says HEU secretary-business manager Judy Darcy.

“On Thursday, HEU members can also show their support for the 25,000 CUPE school board members who’ve been on protest lines by attending rallies in the Okanagan in their off-hours.”
