HEU's majority in FBA means strong representation for LPNs

June 22, 2012
BCNU's math doesn't add up for LPNs at the bargaining table

This LPN vote is about union representation. It's not a vote to change collective agreements.

This fact has been confirmed by the Labour Relations Board. BCNU has also accepted this reality.

The multi-union Facilities Bargaining Association bargaining committee negotiates this agreement.

The FBA rules ensure each union is represented on the bargaining committee in proportion to the number of its members covered by the agreement.

BCNU recently speculated about the number of seats it should have at the Facilities bargaining table.

Of course, this demand doesn't make much sense before your votes are counted.

But one fact is very clear. HEU will continue to represent the majority of union members covered by the agreement, and control the majority of votes at the bargaining table.

And as the majority union, HEU will continue to play a lead role in negotiating the collective agreement that will cover all LPNs targeted by the raid.

That's why LPNs across B.C. are working hard to protect our unified voice within our union, HEU.

LPNs have benefited from their unity within HEU's majority in the FBA.

  • Wage increments and significant wage increases
  • Access to training and education
  • Strong representation on the bargaining team

BCNU seeks to fragment LPN representation within the FBA, so that some LPNs are not represented within HEU's majority.

We are urging LPNs in every health authority, and in Providence Health Care, to support HEU, and protect our unified voice.

Thanks for your support. And don't forget to cast your ballot!
