Sharpen your advocacy skills by enrolling in the Seniors' Residential Care Advocacy Course.
This online course offered by PovNetU and co-sponsored by the Hospital Employees Union is free to participants and designed to assist front line care providers (care aides, activity aides, licensed practical nurses, nurses), community advocates and community workers, and family members to learn how to solve issues regarding the quality of care in long term care facilities.
You'll learn about the standard of care that all facilities are legally obligated to provide to residents and explore different methods of resolving problems ranging from informal discussions with staff and management to filing an official complaint. The course will help learners understand the complaint process and the subsequent investigation and possible outcomes.
The course will run from Monday February 11th to Friday March 15th, 2013 (5 weeks). It requires approximately 2-3 hours of work/participation per week but it is flexible. You can log in on your own schedule anytime to do the work.
A faciliator will be available to discuss issues online with you and other participants around the province.
The deadline for registration is Friday February 8th at noon. You will hear from PovNetU shortly before the course starts about logging in and other instructions.
