Our Work Matters 2009

In preparation for our next round of bargaining, the union has organized another series of sectoral and occupational conferences which are an opportunity for members across the province to network, identify bargaining issues and priorities, and discuss issues specific to their occupational grouping.

Community Health Bargaining Conference

The purpose of this one-day conference is to prepare for the next round of bargaining, discuss bargaining demands, identify top priorities and elect a bargaining committee.

Introduction to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S)

In a two-day workshop, participants learn how to apply the WCB Act and the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation to protect workers’ rights and ensure safe workplaces.

Preventing Violence in the Workplace

A one-day workshop to help members develop and implement a comprehensive, cohesive and effective violence prevention strategy in all health care workplaces.

CUPE BC Young Workers Conference

This four-day conference in Naramata, B.C. is an opportunity for young workers (30 years of age and younger) to learn more about collective agreements, health and safety, globalization, effective stewarding, and public-private partnerships (P3s). HEU has limited funding to support attendance of some of our members.

Table Officers

This one-day workshop is offered to chairpersons and secretary-treasurers who are newly elected for the first time and have not received training at their local.

This two-day conference is an opportunity for HEU’s equity-seeking groups to network, learn more about each other’s issues, and elect members to the standing committees.

Intro to Shop Steward

This three-day workshop covers the roles and responsibilities of shop stewards, how to effectively handle and investigate grievances, and facing management.

Standing Up for Seniors!

A two-day workshop to assist members working in long-term care to use the new HEU tool kit to take on the challenges of workload in order to improve working and caring conditions.

Political Action Conference

This two-day conference is designed to help HEU members prepare for election campaigns across the province as British Columbians head to the polls in the spring.

Know and Enforce Your Rights

This three-day intermediate shop steward workshop is offered to HEU members currently dealing with grievances and contract enforcement, and who have already taken the HEU Introductory Shop Steward workshop.

Union Activism
