HEU is an affiliate of the 500,000-member B.C. Federation of Labour (B.C. Fed), whose workers serve in all sectors of the province’s economy in more than 1,100 locals.
HEU is the B.C. Health Services Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). CUPE National is Canada’s largest union, representing more than 700,000 workers in health care, education, municipalities, libraries, universities, social services, public utilities, transportation, emergency services, and airlines.
Through CUPE, HEU is part of the 3.3 million-member Canadian Labour Congress (CLC).
And many HEU locals are also affiliated with local district labour councils, which represent the CLC in their communities.
HEU is also a member of the BC Health Coalition, a medicare advocacy organization representing the needs of seniors, people with disabilities, women, youth, anti-poverty activists, people living with HIV/AIDS, labour and other community groups.
