Contract talks for a renewed collective agreement between the Hospital Employees’ Union and the Good Samaritan Society will begin next month in Burnaby. The current contract expires on March 31, 2010.

To prepare for these negotiations – set for April 7 and 8 – the union’s bargaining committee has a series of meetings scheduled to put together HEU’s proposal. Those meetings began last week.

About 600 HEU members – working at five Good Samaritan sites – provide care to seniors, including licensed practical nurses, care aides, housekeepers, dietary, maintenance and clerical workers.

HEU’s bargaining committee consists of Uday Raj from Victoria Heights in New Westminster, Odette Venuti and Velma Smyth from Christenson Village in Gibsons, Leslie Leskosek and Norm Reifferscheid from Pioneer Lodge and Hillside Village in Salmon Arm, and Ron Collier and Kimberley Cooper from Village by the Station in Penticton.

If you have any questions about collective agreement negotiations, please contact a member of the bargaining committee or call HEU’s bargaining representative Heather Compton at 1-800-663-5813 (toll-free), 604-456-7034 (direct) or 604-868-0070, or by email.
