Bathgate elected chair of Facilities Sector Bargaining Committee
Vancouver Island LPN Carol Bathgate has been elected to chair the Facilities Sector Bargaining Committee. Bathgate is one of ten HEU members that were elected to the committee by delegates to the union's bargaining conference last fall.
Another member of the bargaining committee, Ian Walker, has resigned his position as a result of a family emergency. He will be replaced by committee alternate John Gillies, from Royal Jubilee Hospital.
Along with HEU's secretary-business manager Bonnie Pearson, president Ken Robinson and financial secretary Donisa Bernardo, all members of the Facilities Sector Bargaining Committee sit on the Facilities Bargaining Association negotiating committee and control a majority of votes on that committee. There are eleven other unions also represented in the FBA.
Pearson is the lead negotiator and spokesperson for the FBA in the talks.
Negotiations for a new collective agreement are in their second week.
