Community health services and support workers across B.C., including HEU members in the sector, have voted 86 per cent in favour of job action after more than six months at the bargaining table with the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC).

“The strong support that HEU community health members have shown in the strike vote is evident throughout the multi-union Community Bargaining Association,” says HEU secretary-business manager Bonnie Pearson.

“Community health workers are prepared to take job action up to and including a strike if necessary. We’re hoping that HEABC will take this clear mandate seriously and return to negotiations on October 9.”

There are 1,500 HEU members in community health. The CBA represents more than 14,000 workers in the sector.
