Community Social Services bargaining committee to organize membership meetings
Members of the community social services bargaining committee will be holding membership meetings in January to discuss the next steps in negotiations for a new collective agreement.
Contract talks with the Community Social Services Employers’ Association broke down last week following more than a year of on-again, off-again negotiations. CSS collective agreements expired March 31, 2010.
The Community Social Services Bargaining Association – which includes HEU and nine other unions – will hold multi-union membership meetings from mid- to late-January. Members are asked to watch their union bulletin boards and the union website for scheduling details.
In the meantime, HEU bargaining representatives salute the dedicated community social services workers, who will be working over the holiday season to support individuals and families around B.C.
Members in the sector will be fielding crisis lines, serving meals for people who are homeless, providing safe havens for women and children facing violence, and creating holiday festivities with, and for, people with developmental disabilities living in residential group homes.
Bargaining committee representatives hope members will find time to spend with family and friends during this holiday season. And that 2011 – which will have its challenges – will bring great rewards as well.
