Community Social Services workers ratify new collective agreements
HEU members working in Community Social Services, along with their co-workers who are represented by eight other unions in the sector, have ratified new collective agreements which became effective October 14, 2011 and will expire March 31, 2012.
The agreements improve job security and work practices and include a $600,000 retraining grant for workers who are impacted by layoffs and program closures.
The overall vote was 88 per cent in favour in General Services and 79 per cent in favour in Community Living Services.
In May, the 15,000 unionized workers in B.C.’s community social services sector provided their bargaining team with an 82 per cent strike mandate.
Members are reminded that bargaining preparations are now underway for 2012 contract negotiations. The HEU bargaining conference for community social services members will take place on November 30 and December 1 in Victoria.
Bargaining demands from locals must be received by HEU’s Provincial Office no later than November 14 at 5:00 p.m.
