Negotiations for a new facilities subsector collective agreement will resume on Thursday – one week after health care workers delivered a 96 per cent strike mandate to their bargaining committee.

The 11-union Facilities Bargaining Association and the Health Employers Association of BC have agreed to ask mediator Vince Ready to assist the parties when the talks resume later this week.

FBA spokesperson Bonnie Pearson says that the strong strike mandate sends a clear signal to health employers that health care workers are united in their determination to reach a fair and respectful agreement.

“We remain focused on negotiating an agreement that protects jobs and benefits and improves our working and caring conditions,” says Pearson, who is also secretary-business manager of the Hospital Employees’ Union.
