The HEU bargaining committee met with Omar Lalani, the new owner of St. Charles Manor, on July 15 to discuss the terms of a first collective agreement.

St. Charles Manor is a 50-bed, for-profit complex care facility in Victoria that was bought by Lalani at the beginning of July. The union, which became certified on October 1, 2007, had been in negotiations with the previous owner since November 27.

At the time of Lalani’s take over, the parties had signed off on all, but about 10 items, which are mostly monetary.

During the initial meeting with Lalani, HEU reviewed the terms and conditions tentatively agreed to, and outlined proposals to resolve outstanding issues. The employer agreed to send a counter-proposal for the committee’s review.

Once an agreement is reached, it will be brought back to the members for ratification.

The bargaining committee includes members Sarah Milligan and Marcy Devires, and HEU bargaining representative Bonnie Youngman (250-812-6340).
