Despite four days of comprehensive discussions between HEU and Golden Life Management – June 16 through June 19 – the two parties were unable to reach an agreement on wages and benefits.

The union had tabled its compensation proposal during the last round of scheduled talks in early April.

Failure to reach an agreement in this latest round of talks has prompted the union to apply for mediation under Section 74 of the B.C. Labour Code. HEU is now awaiting the appointment of a mediator and mediation dates.

In recent weeks, 30 workers from CastlewoodVillage in Castlegar and 74 workers from RosewoodVillage in Trail voted to make HEU their union of choice.

New members from these two sites are now covered by the 2005-2008 Golden Life/Rocky Mountain Village Collective agreement which also covers workers at GardenViewVillage in Kimberly, CrestViewVillage in Creston, JosephCreekVillage in Cranbrook and RockyMountainVillage in Fernie.

Deb Milliard-Nieman (CastlewoodVillage) and Lynn Morran and Rhonda Hillelreich (RosewoodVillage) have joined the union’s bargaining committee. Other members include Kim Dale and Karen Standish (RockyMountainVillage); Tim Mund and Lena Lenko (CrestViewVillage); Robyn Hilton (GardenViewVillage) and Barb Shukin and Nikki Hay (JosephCreekVillage).
