Job security a key issue as bargaining continues in contracted support services
Bargaining is in full swing for more than 4,000 HEU members who work in support services for Sodexo, Aramark, Acciona, Marquise and Compass.
The bargaining teams have brought forward their full package of proposals, including Compass VCHA/PHC tabling a demand to eliminate the light duty housekeeping classification.
The CSSW employers are expected to respond to the union’s monetary proposals during bargaining in February and March.
“We delivered the message that maintaining an experienced, well-trained workforce is important for quality care,” said HEU bargaining spokesperson Bob Wilson.
“HEU members are a critical part of the health care team and deserve job security. When a commercial contract is transferred from one company to another, HEU members should not lose their jobs, nor suffer cuts in wages and benefits.”
Wilson says, “This is why we have proposed an end to the shameful practice of contract flipping without job security for workers.”
