After several meetings between the Hospital Employees’ Union bargaining committee and Compass management, negotiations for a first collective agreement will continue in the offices of the BC Labour Relations Board (LRB) with the assistance of Grant McArthur, an LRB-appointed mediator.

McArthur will be meeting with the union and the employer on July 30 and August 1 in an effort to reach an agreement.

Despite the best efforts of the HEU bargaining committee, there is no agreement with the employer on improvements to wages and benefits or on other major non-monetary items.

The bargaining committee hopes that a mediator will be able to help put together a fair collective agreement proposal for members’ consideration.

HEU has also proposed that the recently certified dietary staff be included in the negotiations, which have already begun for housekeeping and laundry workers.

To assist in discussions with the mediator, the bargaining committee is asking members to take a few minutes to fill in a questionnaire. The information will be used to help the bargaining committee better understand members’ issues and concerns.

Please return completed surveys to either Niki Reddy or Nimo Warsane by July 29.

For more information about the survey or the contract negotiations, please contact bargaining committee members Niki Reddy and Nimo Warsane, or HEU bargaining representative David Durning at 604-456-7020.
