The newly-elected HEU bargaining committee — representing more than 800 Sodexho food service workers in Vancouver Coastal — met at the union’s Provincial Office on January 27 and 28 to continue preparations for the first round of bargaining.

Committee members say they were successful in developing bargaining proposals to address the many seniority and workload issues affecting members at Sodexho worksites, but there is still more work to do to complete proposals for a new collective agreement.

A second committee meeting, scheduled for February 8 and 9, will tackle the remaining areas identified for inclusion in upcoming contract talks. Those topics are wages, benefits, job classification and occupational health and safety.

In preparation for the first round of negotiations, the union’s bargaining committee is now waiting to hear from Sodexho so bargaining dates can be set. HEU served Sodexho with notice to bargain in December 2004. Bargaining committee members include:
  • Annamaria Neuls, Kiwanis Care Centre, North Vancouver
  • Kerry Keller, Powell River Hospital
  • Jesse Dick, St. Paul’s Hospital

The committee’s two alternates are:

  • Cheng Bock Seet, Lion’s Gate Hospital
  • Janice Pois, UBC Hospital

HEU’s bargaining spokesperson is Susan Fisher.
