Shannon Oaks contract talks move forward
It's been five months since negotiations began for a first contract covering HEU members employed by Sodexho at Shannon Oaks.
But despite a slow beginning, the February 21 bargaining session made considerable progress as the union and employer were able to reach agreement on all non-monetary issues.
In addition to those developments, Sodexho also put its counter offer to the union's monetary proposal on the table.
"We are cautiously optimistic that we could be nearing a settlement,” says HEU bargaining spokesperson Susan Fisher. “But how quickly we get there will depend on the employer’s willingness to take our wage and benefit issues seriously.”
Fisher says the union’s goal for a first contract remains unchanged. “Our members deserve wages that are similar to other recent Sodexho settlements, as well as improvements to cost-shared health and welfare benefits.”
In other updates, the bargaining committee reports that Sodexho has been steadfast in its refusal to improve statutory holiday or vacation entitlements.
And the committee reminds members that once a tentative agreement is reached, the union will distribute a report detailing the terms of the proposed contract, and a ratification vote will be held.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for March 14, 2006.
