Strike vote scheduled for Pro Vita members at Arranglen Gardens
HEU's Pro Vita bargaining committee is asking Arranglen Gardens members for a strike mandate to provide some momentum for first contract talks that have so far produced little progress despite the assistance of a labour board mediator.
The vote will take place at the Qualicum Heritage Inn on July 20 between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The two sides have met seven times since March, but have only agreed to a handful of items including some preamble language, the definition of common-law spouse and provisions related to the personnel files and evaluation forms.
Pro Vita has tabled a wage offer that would reduce current wages.
"Management is not giving these talks the priority they deserve," says HEU's bargaining spokesperson Bonnie Youngman. "And their wage position shows that they're out-of-touch with labour market conditions in the central Vancouver Island region.
"A strong strike mandate from our Pro Vita members will help management focus on the task at hand - a strong first contract that's fair to workers and will provide stability in the workplace."
