The HEU bargaining committee representing care aides, LPNs, activity aides and home support workers at SummerlandSeniorsVillage will begin negotiations for a first collective agreement next week.

The committee met with lead negotiator Heather Compton over three days to put together the union’s position on non-monetary issues including harassment protection, a grievance process and seniority and job posting procedures.

Negotiations will take place for two or three days every week in June starting on June 6.

The 60 workers at SummerlandSeniorsVillage voted to join HEU earlier this year and the union was certified as the bargaining representative on March 28.

Jackie Porter and Debra Sydholm are the membership’s representatives on the bargaining committee. Jean Duhamel is the alternate representative.

The bargaining committee is hopeful that significant progress can be made in June and that both sides can move quickly to discuss wages and benefits.

SummerlandSeniorsVillage is operated by Retirement Concepts.
