On Friday, January 18 the committee bargaining on behalf of HEU members employed by Just Care at EvergreenHeights and

Kin Court South
applied to the Labour Relations Board (LRB) for mediation.

Despite reaching an agreement on many non-monetary items, the bargaining committee and the employer have been unable to resolve key issues such as wage increases and sick leave provisions.

As a result, the committee decided to move forward with mediation and then hold membership meetings to explain the current agreement and the outstanding issues.

On January 21, the LRB appointed mediator Grant McArthur, who will assist the two parties in reaching an agreement.

The bargaining committee understands that all members have been waiting to receive pay increases and a first contract. And they would like to thank everyone for their patience as they work to negotiate a fair collective agreement that represents members’ priorities.

The committee expects to hold membership meetings in February to bring bargaining to a close.

The bargaining committee members are Shyki Tronrud, Rima Kleyn and HEU director of bargaining, Susan Fisher.
