The wages and working conditions remain in place for all Big 3 members even after current collective agreements between HEU and Sodexo, Aramark or Compass expire at midnight tonight.

HEU secretary-business manager Judy Darcy says that negotiations with Aramark for a new contract are already underway, and bargaining dates have been set to begin talks with Sodexo and Compass.

“Under labour laws in B.C., current wages and working conditions remain in effect until a new collective agreement is reached,” says Darcy.

“We met with Aramark most recently on September 23 and 24 to negotiate a new collective agreement covering our members working in housekeeping at Vancouver Coastal Health Authority facilities, and we have bargaining dates scheduled with Sodexo and Compass throughout October and into November on behalf of our members in the Fraser Health Authority, the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, the Vancouver Island Health Authority and the Provincial Health Services Authority.”

Bargaining dates are:
  • October 28 and 29 with Aramark for housekeeping in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority hospitals and long-term care facilities;
  • October 15, with more dates in October and November, with Sodexo for members providing cleaning, dietary and other services in hospitals and long-term care facilities in the Fraser Health Authority and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and on Vancouver Island;
  • October 16 and 17 with Compass for health support workers in the Provincial Health Services Authority, and
  • October 21 and 22 with Compass for health support workers in the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
As negotiations progress, bargaining bulletins will be issued and made available to members through their locals and on the union’s website.
