Bargaining preparation starts for Community Social Services sector

The Community Social Services Bargaining Conference will take place October 13 and 14, 2021 as a virtual conference.

With all public sector collective agreements set to expire in March 2022, the purpose of the conference is to prepare for the next round of bargaining, discuss bargaining demands, identify top priorities and elect a bargaining committee.

Your local executive, stewards and members should begin discussing and preparing bargaining demand proposals and electing your delegate(s).

If you are interested in becoming a delegate for this conference, ask your local executive for details.

It is especially critical that locals schedule a meeting to meet conference deadlines. For most locals this will mean holding a local meeting to discuss bargaining demands and elect delegates in early September.

Submitting bargaining demands from your local

For the bargaining conference to be productive, it is important that locals carefully consider their demands to ensure that the Bargaining Committee is provided with clear direction. You should also give your delegate(s) some direction regarding priorities for your local.

Please use the Proposed Bargaining Demand form for your submissions. Each demand must be submitted on a separate copy of the form.

It is helpful to use plain language, and to indicate the article number in the collective agreement that you wish to amend if appropriate.

Bargaining demands must be voted for by locals at a local meeting with quorum, and must be signed by the chairperson and secretary-treasurer.

Delegate registration

Delegates must be elected by their locals at a local meeting with quorum, and registration forms must be signed by the chairperson and secretary-treasurer.

Bargaining Demands and completed delegate registration forms must be submitted by Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 5 p.m. either by:

  • mail to HEU Provincial Office, 5000 North Fraser Way, Burnaby, BC, V5J 5M3
  • fax to 604-739-1510
  • email to CSSBABargaining@heu.org

Throughout this pandemic, the union has put a priority on the health and safety of our members and staff. If we need to change the venue or any other aspect of the bargaining conference because of public health orders or guidance, we will let you know as soon as possible.
