Facilities members: Get your local issues on the bargaining agenda

HEU’s Facilities Bargaining Conference will be held November 29 - December 1, 2021. At the conference, delegates will elect a new bargaining committee and vote on bargaining demands submitted by locals.

How to submit a bargaining demand from your local

At your regular General Membership or special meeting – which must have quorum – members will elect delegates to the Facilities Bargaining Conference.

At these meetings, members will discuss bargaining issues and priorities. It’s important to organize prior to the meetings to ensure a high turnout and to get support for your motion(s).

All members have the right to put forward a proposed bargaining demand for consideration by their local. It can be written informally so that the issue is easily understood.

For example: "We want laid-off members to receive severance pay after five (5) years of service, not 10. (Article 43, facilities subsector)."

Once a motion is put forward and seconded, a discussion takes place, followed by a vote.

If the motion is passed, then the local executive submits it as a proposed bargaining demand to HEU’s provincial office. It’s really helpful to quote the Article to ensure the bargaining committee understands the exact change your local wants.

Each proposed bargaining demand from your local must be on a separate HEU Proposed Bargaining Demand form, and signed by the chairperson and secretary-treasurer.

The deadline to submit demands is September 29, 2021 at 5 pm.

You will receive a letter acknowledging the number of bargaining demands that your local has submitted. If receipt has not been confirmed by October 15, 2021 please email FBABargaining@heu.org.

HEU’s Provincial Executive will also submit bargaining priorities directly to the Facilities Bargaining Conference.
