Celebrating your commitment and compassion on Health Care Assistant Day

Health Care Assistant Day on October 18 celebrates the commitment and compassion you bring to your work every day.

Today we want to acknowledge the kindness you provide under stressful conditions, and we want to recognize the special care you deliver despite heavy workloads.

This year, the importance of what you do has never been more visible.

The valuable and heroic work of health care assistants is being understood and recognized in new ways. People are talking about seniors’ care, and understanding some of what health care assistants experience on the front lines every day.

As a union, we know we have to keep pushing for improvements, and must seize this moment to advance working and caring conditions.

We’re seeing some promising changes, including:
•    Levelling up of wages in long term care and a promise to maintain those wages even after the pandemic
•    greater oversight of spending of public funds by private care home operators,
•    and a plan to build more care homes in the public non-profit sector.

We are hopeful for a better future for seniors’ care and those, like you, who make it their life’s work.

Today we celebrate the contributions you make to our health care system and re-commit ourselves to fight for better working and caring conditions.
