HEU set to respond Tuesday to Campbell Liberals’ health cuts

Union organizes 7:30 a.m. rally and 4:00 p.m press conference

The Hospital Employees’ Union will be available to respond to health cuts that will be made public in Vancouver on Tuesday, April 22, 2002 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel at 1088 Burrard Street (across from St. Paul’s Hospital).

  • The union will begin the day with a rally outside the posh Vancouver hotel beginning at 7:30 a.m. HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt will be available to comment as will other union leaders.
  • Throughout the day, HEU will monitor the presentations made by the six health authorities and will be on stand-by to provide reaction to regional media (contact numbers below). The union will also post summaries on its web site as soon as possible.
  • Then at 4:00 p.m., HEU will hold a press conference at the Plaza 500 Hotel (Cambie &12th Avenue) in the `Granville A’ room to provide a response to the province-wide cuts. Allnutt will be joined by front-line health care workers from facilities around the province affected by the cuts.

“The Campbell Liberals have demonstrated utter contempt for the people of British Columbia by hatching these cuts in secret,” says Allnutt. “And to add insult to injury, they’ve ordered their health authority chairs and CEOs to Vancouver to unveil their cuts.”
