Rally will support St. Vincent’s residents and caregivers

Health care workers from around Vancouver will march and rally Monday morning, May 6 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in support of the fight of residents and their caregivers to keep the seniors’ care facility open.

HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt will be speaking at the rally, along with representatives of seniors’ groups and front-line health care workers.

Health officials announced on April 23rd that St. Vincent’s Hospital would be closed.

When: 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 6 Where: Assemble at Queen Elizabeth Park Cambie & 33rd Avenue Vancouver

March along Cambie Street, then west on 33rd Avenue to rally at St. Vincent’s Hospital at 33rd and Heather.

Also on Monday morning, hundreds of HEU members in Vancouver hospitals are expecting to receive pink slips. The mass layoffs result from the Campbell government’s cutback plan unveiled late last month.
