Arm yourself with knowledge
Check out Cap College’s Labour Studies Program Fall 2001 Fall is just around the corner and with it comes the opportunity to expand your knowledge, enhance your skills, and build your network of contacts by taking some courses offered through the Labour Studies Program at Capilano College in North Vancouver.
With Gordon Campbell’s government firmly entrenched in Victoria, and its attack on organized labour well underway, emerging and experienced activists will find a variety of courses in the Fall 2001 line-up with which to protect and further the rights of workers and fight the Liberals’ anti-union agenda.
There are more than 20 different courses this session including: Representing Members Suffering from Mental Illness, Conflict Resolution, and Non-Violent Civil Disobedience: What the Law Allows.
HEU has funds available (up to $350 per member per year) to facilitate HEU members’ participation. Upon completion of a course, members may submit the receipt of course registration on the standard member expense voucher — available from the locals — to HEU’s financial secretary Mary LaPlante at the Provincial Office. Note that the five Union Registered Courses —Strategies for Fighting Contracting Out is one of them — require the union’s or your local’s authorization in order to register.
