Bill 29 Supreme Court decision update for members
Printer Friendly Version
Many members – past and present – are waiting eagerly to find out how the Supreme Court’s landmark Bill 29 decision will affect them and other workers.
Since the Court handed down its decision on June 8, your Provincial Executive and staff have been working with legal counsel to interpret the Court’s ruling and to develop the best approach for ensuring that justice in the courts translates into justice on the ground.
This Court decision was precedent-setting and there is no quick, simple resolution that will unravel the damage Bill 29 caused to members or to health care delivery. With the stakes so high, it is essential that the union takes the time and care needed to best represent members’ interests.
Please be assured that everyone involved is working as diligently as possible to achieve an outcome that is fair and that recognizes the grave injustices of Bill 29.
Our union is also determined to make sure the outcome of this decision includes stronger public health care, more stable labour relations, and protection of our hard-won charter right to free collective bargaining.
Thank you for your patience. We look forward to providing more details as soon as we are able.
