CANCELLED: Aug. 4 TWU support picket in Victoria

The support picket for TWU workers on the line in Victoria previously scheduled for August 4 from 6 to 8 pm has been cancelled.

However, the BC Federation of Labour is calling for supporters in the Lower Mainland to join members of the Telecommunications Workers' Union working at Telus in a solidarity picket from 6 to 8 pm tonight, Thursday, August 4 at 1795 Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby.

The BC Fed-organized solidarity picket is one in a series being staged across the province every Thursday evening for as long as Telus continues to lock out TWU workers.

HEU members will recognize the heavy-handed tactics that Telus is using to divide workers and pit union member against union member while refusing to bargain a decent collective agreement.

And HEU members are very aware of how important the support of other trade unionists and the public-at-large is during a labour dispute after their own experience on health care lines in May 2004.

TWU members working at Telus across from the HEU Provinicial Office in Burnaby are using the union's facilities as their strike headquarters.
