Celebrating Support Workers’ Day across B.C. – May 12
Locals across the province are taking time out today to recognize the valuable contribution support workers make to the health care team.
This year’s Support Workers’ Day theme is occupational health and safety, as far too often these important issues are overlooked by health employers in our busy workplaces.
Support workers play a vital role in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for workers, patients and visitors, but their work is often invisible and unrecognized.
HEU locals have been mailed a health and safety awareness questionnaire where support workers can also sign up for the health and safety action network; along with Support Workers’ Day stickers for members and for the local safety representative to wear; an instruction sheet for the local safety representative; an event poster to promote your work site’s May 12 activities, and a feedback form.
For more information on health and safety, be sure to check out the latest issue of the Guardian, dedicated to OH&S to further draw attention to the issues health care workers face.
Have a terrific Support Workers’ Day!
