Community Social Services Awareness Month proclaimed by Provincial Government
A proclamation recently issued by the B.C. Provincial Government pays tribute to the vital role community social services play in our society.
In declaring March 2015 as Community Social Services Awareness Month, the proclamation states “greater recognition and understanding of the critical role these services play in our communities is needed to ensure their continued accessibility, availability and improvement.”
On behalf of the union, HEU secretary-business manager Bonnie Pearson thanks and salutes “our dedicated members who are working to support many of society’s most vulnerable citizens.”
Pearson says community social services’ workers provide critical services to children and adults with special needs, women fleeing abuse and violence, new immigrants, youth in the justice system, and many others whose safety and well-being requires temporary or ongoing support.
