Compass confirms it will respect collective agreement
The Hospital Employees’ Union has received an assurance from Compass that they will continue to honour the current collective agreement it has signed with the union at those seven sites where Marquise Group will take over service delivery in the fall.
Earlier this week, the union learned that Compass has come to an agreement to acquire ownership of the Marquise Group. The buyout deal is expected to be finalized within the next month.
In the meantime, the union is continuing to press Compass to rescind layoff notices that it had issued to members after losing its bid to continue as the food service and housekeeping contractor at those sites.
“While we understand that Compass’s acquisition of Marquise is not yet finalized it’s also important to put an end to the anxiety and uncertainty in the workplace,” says HEU secretary-business manager Judy Darcy.
The current collective agreement expires in the fall of 2012.
HEU members at Glengarry, Aberdeen, The Priory, Queen Alexandra, Gorge Road, Mt. Tolmie and Saanich Peninsula are advised to check with their stewards and on the website for any updated information.
