Darcy to seek NDP nomination in New Westminster
HEU’s secretary-business manager Judy Darcy announced today that she will be seeking the NDP nomination in the provincial constituency of New Westminster in order to run in the next provincial election.
The riding is represented by Dawn Black who has announced that she will not be seeking re-election.
“Like many, I have admired and been inspired by Dawn’s contribution to public life over many decades,” says Darcy.
“And I hope I can play a part in preserving her legacy as a compassionate and progressive voice for New Westminster.”
A date for the New Westminster NDP’s nomination meeting has not yet been scheduled but is expected to take place within a few weeks.
HEU president Ken Robinson and financial secretary Donisa Bernardo both expressed their support for Darcy’s nomination bid citing her strong leadership qualities and commitment to social justice issues.
Robinson added that during the nomination period, HEU’s assistant secretary-business manager, Bonnie Pearson, will be handling Darcy’s duties.
Pearson is an experienced negotiator who has spent more than 30 years working in public and private sector unions including more than eight years with HEU.
