Deadline approaching for submitting OH&S success stories for new video

All entries eligible to win a $300 gift certificate for spa treatment

Have you successfully exercised your “Right to Refuse Unsafe Work” at your local? If so, we want to hear from you.

HEU members often organize with co-workers to talk to employers about workplace issues that negatively impact their health and well-being.

It might be dealing with on-the-job violence, inadequate equipment, outdated patient care plans, bullying and harassment, short-staffing, workload, or any other health and safety concern.

Sometimes, workers are put in situations where performing a task may put them or a patient, resident or client at risk, forcing them to make on-the-spot decisions.

That’s why HEU wants to hear about your experiences.

We’re looking for stories or examples of things your local has done to make your workplace safer. Have you ever refused unsafe work? What was the issue and result? Have policies changed as a result of that action?

Based on ideas from members of the union’s OH&S subcommittee, HEU is gathering success stories around refusing unsafe work. We’ll be using some of the information gathered to help create an education video on health and safety.

Submitting your story is easy. Just write, or type, out your story and email it to kturton@heu.org, or fax it to 604-739-1510, attention Kim Turton. Be sure to mark OH&S Success Story in the subject line.

Deadline for submissions is Friday, July 13 at 5:00 p.m.

All entries will be eligible for a draw to win a $300 gift certificate for a spa treatment in your community. One winner only. The decision is final and will be posted on HEU’s website.

If you have any questions, please call Ana Rahmat, OH&S representative, at 604-456-7102.
