FBA Education Fund short-term application forms now available

After six months of organizing and planning, the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA) Education Fund Committee is releasing its first of two information packages on the $5 million education fund, negotiated during 2006 bargaining.

Under an agreement with the provincial government and health authorities, the FBA Education Fund was developed to assist members covered by the Health Services & Support Facilities Subsector collective agreement to upgrade or advance their careers in health care through short-term and long-term training opportunities.

Application forms and information on short-term training are now available for download on our website. Hard copies can be obtained from your local executive or shop steward by mid-October.

Long-term training information packages are in development with a targeted release date during the second half of October. Long-term training includes courses that range in length from more than 20 days to less than one year. These courses would support a facilities’ member moving into a new job within the FBA (i.e. from support to a care aide position, from care aide to LPN, etc).

The FBA Education Fund Committee is working to establish partnerships with other funding sources in order to stretch the Fund so that as many members as possible can be supported to upgrade their skills and transfer into new positions.
