HEU’s Provincial Executive (P.E.) is seeking applications from local activists who are interested in joining a P.E. subcommittee.

HEU’s subcommittees will meet twice a year in 2009, though members of the committees will be expected to engage in activities related to their committee’s work between meetings.

There are two P.E. members, and five members selected from the HEU membership, on each committee. The committees are co-chaired by a member of the Provincial Executive and by one of the committee members drawn from the membership.

“This is an opportunity for members who are passionate about an issue to put that enthusiasm to work for their union and their fellow members,” says HEU secretary-business manager Judy Darcy.

“Grassroots participation in these subcommittees makes our union stronger, more effective and more democratic.”

The union’s P.E. subcommittees are: Anti-Privatization, Occupational Health and Safety, Political Action, Pensions, Global Justice and Peace, Men’s Issues, and Young Workers. And a new subcommittee - Environment - was recently added.

In addition, the union is seeking Expression of Interest applications for the following five occupational subcommittees: Patient Care Technical, Clerical, Nursing Team, Trades and Maintenance, and Support.

The committees will help implement convention decisions in their area of concern, help develop action plans, and reach out to members.

You can download an Expression of Interest form and Committee Descriptions, or ask your local executive for copies.

You can also apply online.

Applications must be submitted to the Provincial Office by 5:00 p.m. on January 26, 2009.
