HEU puts election information at your fingertips

Upcoming Guardian, union website provide election tools for HEU members

Health care workers have a huge stake in the outcome of the B.C. election called for May 16.

The upcoming issue of the HEU Guardian — arriving on members’ doorsteps in the next couple of weeks — contains a special Election 2001 pull out section to help you sort out the critical issues confronting union members.

You can find the same information on-line at www.heu.org — just click on the Election Toolkit icon.

You’ll find:

  • key election issues from an HEU member’s perspective;
  • messages from HEU leaders and the B.C. Federation of Labour;
  • full-length interviews with Premier Dosanjh and Opposition Leader Campbell;
  • the real story on tax cuts plus on-line access to HEU’s video Health Care? Or Tax Cuts?;
  • links to political party websites plus other election-related sites;
  • list of HEU and CUPE members seeking office;
  • how to register to vote; and
  • much, much more.

“With B.C.’s major media having all but sworn in Gordon Campbell as premier, many union members feel they have no say in the election outcome,” says HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. Between now and May 16, we have an opportunity to make our mark on the post-election agenda of whichever government is elected.”

Check out the upcoming Guardian and the HEU website to help inform your vote on May 16.
