HEU’s public sector bargaining preparations now underway

Recently, a special mailing was sent to HEU locals in the facilities and community social services sectors with a call to submit bargaining demands and delegate credentials to attend this spring’s public sector bargaining conferences.

A special mailing will be sent to community health locals on February 15.

As part of the pre-bargaining process, the union has launched a two-month, province-wide tour with HEU’s leadership to gather information and to provide a context for negotiating new contracts for more than 40,000 HEU members in the public sector.

The tour includes evening sessions that are open to everyone, which are posted on the union’s website.

Please be sure to check your work site’s union bulletin board for a “special meeting notice” and try to attend. These local meetings will discuss and pass bargaining demands, and elect delegates to represent your local at your sectoral bargaining conference. This is an important opportunity to participate in the bargaining process and make your voice heard.

Your local’s bargaining demands will then be forwarded to the union’s Provincial Office and sent to your bargaining conference for HEU delegates to debate and vote on.

Delegate entitlement and elections, as well as the bargaining process, are outlined in Article 4 and Article 9 in the union’s Constitution and By-Laws, including information on quorum and delegate eligibility.

Community social services locals must submit their bargaining demands and delegate credentials by Thursday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m. Your bargaining conference is scheduled for April 23-24 in Victoria.

Facilities locals must submit their bargaining demands and delegate credentials by Thursday, March 22 at 5:00 p.m. The Facilities Bargaining Association bargaining conference will be held May 22-24 in Richmond.

Community health locals must submit their bargaining demands and delegate credentials by Thursday, April 5 at 5:00 p.m. The Community Bargaining Association bargaining conference will be held May 8-9 at the HEU Provincial Office in Burnaby.
