There’s still time to access the $2-million Joint Bill 29 Re-training Fund, established as part of last year’s Bill 29 settlement agreement.

Following the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision to strike down key sections of Bill 29 and give the Government of B.C. one year to address the legislation’s consequences on thousands of health care workers, a settlement agreement was reached between the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA), the Health Employers Association of B.C. (HEABC) and the provincial government.

As part of that settlement, the FBA and HEABC established a jointly administered $2-million fund to re-train individuals who were laid off due to contracting out between January 28, 2002 and January 25, 2008.

Information and application forms are available on HEU’s website, and must be received at the Provincial Office by September 30.

The joint committee that’s administering the program will be meeting in October to determine funding allocations, and will notify accepted applicants by the end of December.
