Joint Bill 29 Re-training Fund applications and info now available
The Joint Bill 29 Re-training Committee has now set the criteria for accessing the $2-million re-training fund, established as part of last year’s Bill 29 settlement agreement.
Following the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision to strike down key sections of Bill 29 and give the Government of B.C. one year to address the legislation’s consequences on thousands of health care workers, a settlement agreement was reached between the Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA), the Health Employers Association of B.C. (HEABC) and the provincial government.
As part of that settlement, the FBA and HEABC established a jointly administered $2-million fund to re-train individuals who were laid off due to contracting out between January 28, 2002 and January 25, 2008.
Information and application forms have been sent in this week’s secretary-treasurer mailing, and are available on our website.
Deadline for applications is September 30, 2009.
